Honoring the dead: Dia de Los Muertos events in Orange County

A remembrance of friends and family members who have died. Día de Los Muertos is an event celebrated worldwide. The celebration of life is typically a high spirited event to honor the deceased.  The multi day event is planned all year long.  Cleaning and visiting graves, setting up altars around the tombstones of your loved ones, sharing your loved one’s favorite memories, prayers for their souls, sharing in their favorite foods and activities are all ways to celebrate. Candy, gifts, flowers, candles, and sugar skulls are often shared with kids and among friends.  Elaborate altars and décor are shared, enjoying live music and entertainment, face painting, or in bright colorful clothing are just some of the ways the dead are honored. Originally starting in Mexico, the tradition of sharing the life vs mourning the death of our loved ones and ancestors is something that’s taken on its own meaning in cultures and celebrations across the world.

Orange County has its own part in the celebration with Día de Los Muertos events throughout every city.  As the day of the dead is upon us here are some Orange County places to celebrate.
